Yamaha launches a new MODX line of compact synthesizers!

Yamaha has announced the launch of a new line of lightweight compact synthesizers, which will consist of three instruments: MODX6 and MODX7 with 61 and 76 pressure-sensitive keys respectively, and 88-key MODX8 with Graded Hammer Standard action.

Yamaha MODX

The new Yamaha MODX line of synthesizers from Yamaha has borrowed many interesting features and technical solutions from its predecessors - the MOXF line, and also has several new unique features. The main technical characteristics of this lineup include:

  • An improved AWM2 sound engine, which now supports 8 times more waveforms and 128-voice stereo polyphony;
  • A new powerful FM-X engine with 8 operators, 88, algorithms, 64-voice polyphony;
  • Motion Control Synthesis Engine - Yamaha's latest development, which allows you to simultaneously control two audio engines, layer them on top of each other (up to 8 elements per 1 timbre) and distribute them to zones;
  • Seamless Sound Switching - a smooth sound switching function that helps to avoid delays and falsifications in sound or effects. It supports settings up to 8 parts;
  • 768 Mb of internal flash memory;
  • Built-in 4-in / 10-out audio interface;
  • The ability to build chains up to 27 simultaneous sound effects.

In addition to all the above functions, the MODX synthesizer line has such distinctive features as: a Super Knob controller that allows you to change the dynamics and nature of the sound so that you can simultaneously control several parameters, Motion SEQ - the ability to record automations for simplicity and convenience of setting parameters in real-time, Envelope Follower - a function that allows you to use audio to control virtually any parameter or effect of the synth. The built-in effects of these three synthesizers range from high-quality reverbs to elaborated VCM effects and include Beat Repeat, Vinyl Break, Bit Crusher, Compressor, Analog Delay, VCM Phaser, amplifier emulators and several special effects such as a damper resonance effect that enhances the realism of sensations when playing the instrument, and HD reverbs, with which you can move anywhere in the concert hall.

As for commutation, the entire MODX line supports connection and data exchange with PC and iOS devices using a powerful USB driver that allows to transmit 16 channels and receive 3 stereo channels 24 bit / 44.1 kHz, and fully supports the transfer of 16 MIDI channels via a USB cable.

In general, the synthesizers of this line are extremely powerful, affordable, functional and well suited for both live performances and studio work. The price for them is yet unknown, but Yamaha promises that the entire line will appear in musical equipment stores very soon.
