BOSS RV-500 - for creating any sound atmosphere

BOSS RV-500 - for creating any sound atmosphere

The device has a powerful digital signal processor, MIDI input and output, supports external control of the footswitch or expression pedal, and USB allows you to use the free software RV-500 Editor/Librarian.

RV-500 is claimed to be the most powerful and versatile reverb ever created by BOSS, Roland’s subsidiary. This multi-level computer creates studio-level sound with the help of 32-bit DAC/ADC of the top notch quality with a sampling frequency of 96 kHz and a sampling rate of 24 bits.

The device has 12 modes and 21 reverb algorithms and that allows you to create a wide variety of sound atmospheres. It is possible to edit waveform processing algorithms.

Thanks to the high-performance processor, RV-500 allows access to a full-featured digital delay along with each reverb patch and A/B Simul mode allows you to run two reverb patches simultaneously.

Each of the reverberation algorithms includes a large range of adjustable settings - from decay, density and modulation to an equalizer, slope and much more. All of this was developed by BOSS, using the company’s many years of professional experience. Here you can create standard effects - for example, rooms, halls, and more sophisticated ones - shimmer, non-linear, SFX, and many more. Moreover, new versions of the re-creation of the cult models by Roland - RE-201 Space Echo (1970) and SRV-2000 Digital Reverb (1980) - were included.

Activating the dual pedal mode will help run two independent reverbs simultaneously that can be combined with a full-range input and with frequency-divided inputs. A/B Simul mode allows you to use any two reverb patches at once offering the selection of processing in series or in parallel and mixed or split A/B output. Each patch is equipped with a digital delay function with a full set of parameters: modulation, EQ, and the ability to set reverb and delay effects into operation in series or in parallel based on each patch.

The sound quality which results from internal processing, is even higher than that achieved with digital processors used in heaped up professional studios.

RV-500 has a large LCD, where you can find out the name of the current patch, delay time and other information. The display also helps to check and adjust the parameters of deep editing and advanced control functions. "Grab-and-go" on the front panel will help you access the necessary parameters, such as pre-delay, equalizer, effects. USB will allow you to get integrated with a free editor or RV-500 library on your computer, so you can remotely edit, fix a backup, and so on.

Freely assignable routing, as well as extensive real-time management, will make the configuration process more comfortable. The A, B and TAP/CTL switches provide intuitive settings for selecting patches and banks, as well as bypass, tempo and real-time effect settings.

It is possible to configure routing in order to access three different reverb patches, A/B Simul mode and other functions. MIDI I/O give you access to advanced settings.

RV-500 modes and algorithms:

  • Room - four types: small, medium, large and ambience.
  • Hall – provides three options of hall dimensions.
  • Plate – classic studio reverberation.
  • Spring – 1-3 spring selection.
  • Shimmer - pitch-shifted reverb (two voices).
  • Fast Decay - a unique reverberator featuring fast decay for adding pureness.
  • Early Reflection - four types with envelope parameters that will allow to receive unique sounds.
  • Non-Linear includes reverse, gate and granular types.
  • SFX - three types of reverb for special effects: Lo-Fi, Slowverb and Storm.
  • Dual - two independent reverberations that can receive a signal from a frequency-divided input or a full-range one.
  • SRV will recreate Roland SRV-2000 (“hi” from the 1980s).
  • Space Echo - the creation of the spatial echo of Roland RE-201 (produced in the 70's).

BOSS RV-500 effects processor works on four AA-size batteries or PSA series AC adapter.
