ElecTribe R (ER-1) was released in 1999 as an accompaniment tool for Electribe A (EA-1). The device has quite a synthetic sound, typical for the classic drum machines of the XX century. The sound is generated with the help of a digital signal processor, but at the same time works on the principle of analog simulation.

The drum machine has an unlimited number of settings, such as: pitch, modulation depth, wave shaping and many more. Like its series brother, it has a built-in step sequencer with 16 customizable buttons. Each button is backlit which allows you to see the rhythm parts involved. In addition, there is a real-time performance mode with 12 trigger buttons, 4 of which interact with analog simulation and can be configured. The rest are responsible for the permanent access to PCM-samples. The effects panel, unfortunately, doesn’t impress too much, there is only 1 delay with depth and time control. Anyway this model might be self-sufficient enough considering the time it was launched.

You can breathe new life into the rhythm machine thanks to real-time oscillator recording manipulations, signal amplifiers, and also owing to a step sequencer. Each created loop is saved as a pattern which is subjected to the current settings of the knobs. Besides, there is an internal memory capable of storing up to 256 patterns. ElecTribe R (ER-1) can be controlled by external sequencers, midi-keyboards or samplers. This model was in demand among such artists as: Orbital, Cirrus, Dan Hekate, Saulaterre, The Prodigy, YB70, 69db, MDFMK, Crystal Distortion, the Crystal Method, Massive Attack, and The Chemical Brothers.
