AX-7 is a Roland’s 45-note velocity sensitive keytar launched in 2001 and features more functions than its predecessor AX-1. Later it would be discontinued to give way to Roland’s AX-Synth.

The device still functions as a MIDI controller sending MIDI messages to other MIDI compatible instruments. The keytar supports General MIDI, General MIDI Level 2, and Roland's proprietory GS MIDI.

AX-7 allows for storing up to 128 patches which is 4 times more than AX-1 did. The unit is powered externally or with 6 AA batteries. There’s a 3-character LED display integrated. The volume control knob is featured as well as pitch bend ribbon, expression bar and sustain switch are present. Roland’s D-Beam infrared sensor is installed in the structure of the keytar.

The keytar was used by Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Ozzy Osbourne’s keytarist Adam Wakeman and many others.
